Daniel’s Journal #36 – A WIP Wednesday at a Crossroads

I haven’t updated this blog since last week, and it’s been a while since I did a WIP update. I figured I can get them both done in one shot. Let’s see how I do…

I’m at a crossroads, as you may have guessed from the clever and subtle title. I don’t know where I’m headed next.

Let me back up a click…

I finished Excalibur Nights, the first draft anyway. My beta-readers are chomping into it now, and I’ll have all my notes in order soon. It was a fun book to write. I really enjoyed this one. There’s still a long road ahead, but I’m confident you’ll be seeing this one in the not-too-distant future.

I always have to be working on two books. I can’t function otherwise. While I was working on EN, I was also writing my sci-fi robot book Operation: Maximum Chaos. I’m back on that full time now, and I’m probably around the halfway point. This is a fun book too, but it’s much darker than EN. It didn’t start out that way, but we’re dealing with a society run by clandestine robots, people!

So what’s next? Isn’t that the whole point of the crossroads symbolism?

Oh shit… I forgot to mention I’m working on proofing the paperback edition of Lost Women of the Admiral Inn for its October release. I also have proof copies of I’m in Sci-Fi Hell and Kai the Swordsman ready for their final read-through.

I’m always working. Why not? I enjoy doing it, and we all need something to keep us from going crazy. I don’t know what insane shit I’d be up to if I wasn’t writing, but you’d probably see it on the news.

Anyway… What’s next?

All this editing and reading and drafting has kept my head in the worlds I’ve built and come to know. I didn’t want to be the kind of writer who churned out sequel after sequel, but I have some really good ideas.

Remember when I said I need to work on two stories at once? You already know I’m on Operation: Maximum Chaos, but I’ve also started a book called The New Council, a sequel to Blood Drive.

“Sequel” is a strong word. Yes, it takes place in the same world with some of the old characters, but it can stand on its own. In other words, you won’t have had to read both books (though it might help). The outline has it as crazy and bloody as the first.

I also have ideas for Sci-Fi Hell Rebooted and Kai the Swordsman and the Curse of the Jurogumo, but those are both in very early stages. Also, those are just working titles. They’re subject to change.

And as always, I thank the Muse for all these stellar ideas along with the wherewithal and skill she has given me to write them.

So that’s where I’m at. My mind is a hornets’ nest of ideas, and I’ll do my best to get them on paper and out to my adoring public.

I’ve said too much I think, and I hit the point where I start to question whether or not people care about all this… I know you just want the books. You’ll get them!

Oh… And look for the first issue of Million and One Magazine. It’s coming on April first, and I’ll have a story and an article in it! You’ve been warned.
